CPN-UML Youth Leader Parshuram Basnet In Jail For Money Laundering

June 11, 2013: CPN-UML youth leader Parshuram Basnet has landed in jail after he could not provided the amount of bail demanded by the Special Court for his release in bail. The Special Court has demanded Rs 20 million for releasing him in bail. He could not use his personal assets as a bail but the assets of three persons he wanted to provide the Special Court with have not been evaluated. However, the court has released his wife.

 

The department of anti-money laundering has filed a case against CPN-UML youth leader Basnet including four other 'dons' accusing them of accumulating millions of rupees worth of assets illegally. CPN-UML youth leader Basent was accused of accumulating assets worth Rs 116.01 million. Other dons Ganesh Lama, Deepak Manange and Abhishek Giri are on the run while Chakre Milan is in prison facing other charges, according to nepalnews.com.
