Different Aspects Of Elections In Nepal

Issue 17, April 28, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 26, 2013: the Election Commission (EC) has started off updating voters’ lists in 35 districts out of the 75 district in coordination with the security agencies of the Home Ministry; and the EC would soon start updating voters’ lists in the remaining districts, too, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

So far, the officials of the district EC offices have not encountered any obstacles from anybody. Cadres of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya had opposed the distribution of citizenship certificates, and the voter-ID cards in the past, and hade even looted laptops, and burnt down the documents.

Similarly, the Home Ministry had launched a citizenship-distribution campaign, and no news has been about the obstruction caused by anybody in distributing citizenship certificates.

The three-day-extended meeting of the Central Committee of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya has decided on April 25, 2013 not to participate in the elections until the four parties: UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF tore off the 11-point agreement they had reached on March 13, 2013, and annulled the unconstitutional amendments to the Interim Constitution, according to ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

At the get-together event held by the Madheshi reporters in Birjung on April 25, 2013, Chairman of Terai Madhesh Democratic Party Mahanta Thakur said that talks have been going on especially with the leaders such as Upendra Yadav, Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta, and Anil Jha dissatisfied with the elections, to form an election alliance, according to ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today. Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta was convicted of corruption charges, and had served 14-month jail term.
