Prime Minister Bhattarai: A Salesman
By KTM Metro Reporter
October 30, 2011: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has successfully sold him to Indians as a most competent and reliable partner in governance; however, he has not been able to sell his actions such as turning over the keys of containers that has stored the arms of the Maoist combatants, Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) reached with India, and the need for cooperating with the NC and CPN-UML on completing the peace process and a new constitution to his colleagues such as Mohan Vaidya Kiran and his group in his own party.
Yesterday, Dr. Bhattarai has met with Mohan Vaidya Kiran at the Kiran’s residence to sell his ideas of completing the peace process and a new constitution, and BIPPA. However, how far, Vaidya has bought the ideas of Prime Minister Bhattarai remains to be seen.
Vaidya Kiran and his colleagues have been going to the extreme to hit Dr. Bhattarai hard for his deeds such as turning over the keys of the containers to the Army Integration Special Committee and BIPPA. They want immediate termination of BIPPA reached with India during the recent visit of Prime Minister Bhattarai to India.
In addition, Dr. Bhattarai needs to sell BIPPA to the CPN-UML leaders. He also needs to sell the ideas of army integration and then completing the peace process and a new constitution to not only to the CPN-UML and NC leaders but also to the Vaidya Kiran group of his own party.
Vaidya Kiran and his group have an acrimonious dispute over the BIPPA and the army integration. They have dubbed BIPPA as an anti-national despite the fact that the Nepalese business community and the NC leaders have warmly welcomed it stating it would open the doors to the Indian investors making investments in Nepal. NC leaders have even claimed that BIPPA has been their policy and have appreciated the UCPN-Maoist adopting it.
The Vaidya group has been charging Prime Minister Bhattarai for selling out to the opposition and to Indians because of turning over the keys of containers and the BIPPA reached with the Indians.
