August 25, 2011: The U.N. Human Rights Council has ordered a probe into the possible crimes against humanity in Syria as activists report five more civilian deaths according to the news posted on the Latimes.com.

The top U.N. human rights panel has ordered its investigators to begin looking into the possible crimes against humanity during the five-month-old crackdown on antigovernment protesters in Syria. The Syrian security forces have blocked even the U.N. fact-finding team from visiting areas of unrest.

The U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva has voted for the investigation into the crimes against humanity by 33-4. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar have voted for the investigation whereas China and Russia joined Cuba and Ecuador in voting against the directive.
