Turning Over Keys to Army Integration Special Committee
By KTM Metro Reporter
September 2, 2011: Maoist commanders of the People’s Liberation Army of the UCPN-Maoist yesterday have turned over the keys of the containers that have stored their weapons under the supervision of the UNMIN to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC). The Nepal Army has stored the arms equal to the number of arms the Maoists have stored but the Nepal Army does not need to surrender the keys to the AISC.
Turning over the keys of the containers to the AISC, the UCPN-Maoist leaders have made the real first step toward the army integration: one of the important parts of the peace process.
The United States of America has welcomed this first step toward the peace process. In a statement of the US Embassy in Nepal released here in Kathmandu, the embassy has urged other political parties such as NC and CPN-UML to be flexible to complete the peace process.
One of the Vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya ‘Kiran’ has opposed the turn over of the keys to the AISC without the clear agenda of the army integration. Leaders of other political parties have not publicly reacted to the first step of the army integration, yet.
