Issue 01, January 01, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 30, 2011: Today, the whole Nepal has celebrated Tamu Losar as it celebrated Christmas on December 25, 2011. Lo-Sar means a New Year. We have four kinds of Lo-Sar. They are “Tamu”, “Tola”, “Sonam” and “Gyalpo” Lo-Sars.

People in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim and northeastern part of India called Ladak celebrate one of these Lo-Sars following their tradition and custom.

In Nepal, Gurungs celebrate “Tamu” as “Tola” Lo-sar; Tamangs celebrate “Sonam” Lo-sar; and Sherpas celebrate “Gyalpo” Lo-sar.

Today is the Tamu Losar. So, mostly the Gurugs are feasting whereas the whole Nepalis are enjoying the Losar holiday.
