Maoists For Extending Term Of CA With Conditions

Issue 21, May 23, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 23, 2010: Maoist legislators such as Dev Prasad Gurung and Ekaraj Bhandari has registered their proposal for extending the term of the Constituent assembly (CA) with conditions at the Secretariat of Legislature. The conditions are 1) formation of a national government 2) based on the consensus politics rather than a majority vote. The term of the CA is expiring on May 28, 2010. The Maoist legislators have registered the proposal after the central committee of the UCPN-Maoist decided to put forward such conditions for extending the term of the CA.

The UCPN-Maoist leaders have been concerned very much with the continuation of the current government without doing anything to the peace process and the promulgation of a new constitution; so they needed to put forward such conditions so that the current government led by the person that did not believe in the CA would go according to the political analysts.

On Friday, May 21, 2010, talking to Norwegian Minister for Environment and International Development Erik Solheim in Kathmandu, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that he does not believe in the CA writing a new constitution but he has to agree to it just because the Maoists wanted it. Madhav Nepal has been a freaky Prime Minister, as he has lost elections at the two constituencies but has become Prime Minister with the support of the undemocratic minded politicians.
