UCPN-Maoist And Its Government

Issue 51, December 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 15, 2011: senior vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya ‘Kiran’ has said that rumors about the split of his party are baseless despite the fact that secretary to the party CP Gajurel has been saying his party is splitting, it is only the matter of announcement, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.

The Baidhya group in the UCPN-Maoist has been opposing whatever Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai have been doing to complete the peace process and the constitution writing.

The Baidhya group has said the integration of the Maoist combatants was the surrender whereas the BIPPA Finance Minister Burshaman Pun signed off in India during the visit of Prime Minister Bhattarai to India was the betrayal to the country.

Recently, the Nepalese media have reported that the chairman of UCPN-Maoist has agreed on making Baidhya the acting chairman of UCPN-Maoist and general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa the prime minister to resolve the problems of dissidence in the party.

‘The Rising Nepal’ of today wrote, “Kiran clarified that proposals to make party general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa the candidate of the Prime Minister of the consensus government were put forward in the different meetings.”

Yeserday, speaking at the mass meeting held in his home district Gorkha, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the current government would be transferred to a national consensus one. Dr. Bhattarai also has said that he has been engaged in four major tasks such as completing the peace process, the constitution writing, setting up good governance, and making Nepal a prosperous and peaceful country, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes. He has claimed that the peace process has been moving very fast, the constitution writing on the right track, and many things have been done that his predecessors have not been able to do.
