Fifth Casualty of Appointment Of Chief Secretary

July 31, 2012: protesting the government appointing a junior person to the senior most position of Chief Secretary to the Council of Ministers, Secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC) Shayam Prasad Mainali quit the office today, Mainali is the fifth top official to resign, according to nepalnews.com.

The government had appointed Laila Mani Poudel obviously junior to some of the senior incumbent secretaries to the office of Chief Secretary last week provoking one senior secretary after another to quit the office.

At a press conference held to announce his resignation, Secretary Mainali said that the appointment of the new chief secretary violated the established tradition of giving the top office to the senior secretary.

Secretary to Election Commission Shankar Koirala, Secretary to Home Ministry Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana and Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Trilochan Upreti had already quit the office.

Secretary to the Ministry of Information and Communication Abanindra Kumar Shrestha has also announced that he also is going to quit the office, according to local media news.
