By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On July 12, 2009, the legislature-parliament has passed the policies and programs of coalition government of twenty-two parties for the fiscal year 2009 (2066) by 305 votes for and 251 votes against the policies and programs. The members of the parliament belonging to the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist) have not taken part in discussing the policies and programs in the parliament; however, they have participated in voting against it. Some of the members of the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum have also voted against the policies and programs.
It indicates that the support for the government of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has been slimming down. He has had the support of 353 parliamentarians when he was elected for the position of Prime Minister in May 2009 but now it has gone down to 305 almost reaching at the margin of the majority of 301 required for Madhav Nepal staying on in the job.
Before voting for the policies and programs, the major political parties such as the NC and the CPN-UML leaders have bullied the leaders of small parties that have registered the amendments to the policies and programs disregarding their concerns for amending the policies and programs.
