Kathmandu: members of the Election Commission led by Chief Election commissioners Ayodhe Prasad Yadav have had the meeting with the prime minister at the latter’s residence yesterday to discuss the issues of the provincial and federal elections that have to be done well before January 2018.
EC members have urged the prime minister to get passed all the provincial and federal elections related Bills pending at the legislature, get the electoral constituencies delineated for both the provincial and federal elections, and set the date for the elections, and then only the EC could work on these things.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in turn urged the EC members to hold the provincial and federal election in one day to minimize the cost of holding elections, and assured the EU team of passing the election related Bills, and setting the date for elections soonest.
The EC members said that holding elections in one day is not a problem if the government provides everything required by the EC for this matter. In view of the recently held local elections in two phases, the EC has developed the capacity to hold elections smoothly in time.
