Twenty-Five Percent Of GDP From Remittances

July 10, 2011: a report titled ‘Large Scale Migration And Remittances: Benefits And Cost’ published by The World Bank after the survey of 3,200 households in Nepal states that remittances comprise 30% of the household income and 25% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nepal, ‘Gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
The report says that 2.1 million Nepalis working in foreign countries send US$ 2.5 billion home country; this amount comprises 25% of the GDP. Nepalis working in the Gulf areas send 49% of this amount, working in India 19%, working in Malaysia 12%, and working in other countries 20%.
