On August 10, 2009, Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala has gone to India for making preparation for the visit of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal to India. She has met with the leaders such as Sharad Yadav and Sitaram Yechury of some political parties.

Vice-chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has warned the Prime Minister of not signing any agreement with his Indian counterpart concerning the matters of the national importance without the agreement of other political parties.

On August 10, 2009, a group of single women has staged a rally in Kathmandu against the provision made by the Finance Ministry in the Budget for the FY 2009 for the cash award of Rs 50,000 to each widow marriage.

On August 5, 2009, speaking at the Reporters’ Club in Kathmandu, Tulprasad Sherchan has claimed that he had plotted the royal massacre held on June 1, 2001. Historian Dr. Rajkumar Pokharel writing in a state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of August 10, 2009 has stated that he might be a part of the grand design of making a ‘baby king’.

On August 10, 2009, members of the Constituent Assembly have discussed the concept papers on and drafts of restructuring the state prepared by the Committee on Determining Forms of Legislative Bodies.
