Indian Foreign Secretary In Kathmandu

Issue 26, June 28, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On June 20, 2009, Indian Foreign Secretary Shivashanker Menon has arrived in Kathmandu for a two-day visit. Upon arrival of the foreign Secretary at the Kathmandu International airport, a group of people shouting slogans against the Indian encroachment on the Nepalese territory and the harassment of Nepalis living on the border area by the Indian Border Security have attempted to show black flags to the Indian Foreign Secretary, however, the Nepalese police have managed to stop them.

Then, the Indian Secretary Menon has met with Prime Minister Madhav Nepal. According to the press advisor to the Prime Minister they have talked about the Indian encroachment on the Nepalese territory and the Nepalis harassed by the Indian Border Security Force. Indian Secretary Menon has agreed on taking actions against the personnel that have involved in shifting the border pillars and the security personnel responsible for harassing the Nepali on the border areas. The Indian Secretary also has met with the President and Former Prime Ministers such as Girija Prasad Koirala and Prachanda.

Nepalese Foreign Minster Sujata Koirala and Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood have denied any encroachment on the Nepalese territory and the harassment of the Nepalis by the Indian Border Security Force. The talks between the Nepalese Prime Minister and the Indian Secretary have proved that both the Indian encroachment on the Nepalese territory and the harassment of Nepalis by the Indian Border Security are true. So, the Nepalese Foreign Minister needs to quit the ministerial portfolio if she is a morally strong woman; similarly, Indian Ambassador needs to apologize to the Nepalis for lying to them.
