Issue 19, May 06, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 1, 2012: a powerful bomb apparently attached to a motorcycle parked nearby the rally held at Ramananda Chowk in Janakpur yesterday morning went off killing two on the spot and another two on the way to a nearby hospital. Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha led by Rajan Group has claimed the responsibility for the detonation.

A group of the people belonging to the Mithila community has staged a sit-in rally demanding a separate Mithila province in a new constitution to be promulgated by May 27, 2012. The rally had hardly passed a half hour when the bomb went off killing four people and injuring about 30 people.

Some seriously injured people air-lifted to the Kathmandu Teaching Hospital for treatment. Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Gacchedar, Health Minister Rajendra Mahato and other political leaders visited the injured people undergoing treatment at the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai said that the government would declare those killed in the bomb blast in Janakpur as martyrs and their families would be compensated for the loss of their loved ones.

Almost all political leaders of significance and human rights activists condemned the killing of the innocent people peacefully staging a rally demanding a separate province called Mithila. They also demanded the government protect the lives and properties of the common folks and bring the perpetrators of violence to justice.
