Buddhist Monks Returned to Streets in Myanmar

Issue 44, November 04, 2007

On October 31, 2007, BBC reported that Buddhist monks returned to streets in Myanmar. More than 100 monks have marched in central Myanmar making it the first street demonstration since the last month's bloody crackdown on the street rallies. While marching on the streets through Pakokku, the monks chanted and prayed. It is the site of the first rally that triggered pro-democracy protests nationwide during the last September. Pakokku is a centre of Buddhist learning about 630km (390 miles) northwest of Rangoon.
