SLC Exams Results Taking Lives Of Teenagers

June 12, 2013: after the digital release of the results of the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations, four female teenagers took their lives finding that they were failed in the SLC examinations. They felt that passing the SLC examinations was more important than their lives. They could not live without passing the SLC examinations. Everybody should know that millions of men and women have no opportunity to know even simple alphabets in Nepal but still they are happily married, have families and live with their spouses and children.
SLC is certainly the foundation for the higher education but people need not higher education for living. In addition, anybody could take supplementary examinations within two months. They have the chance of getting through the SLC in the supplementary examinations or in the next examinations. Nobody should attempt to take his/her life for failing in the SLC. Keep your life and live as happily as possible, as nobody is going to get such a human life next time.
The Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) in Sanothimi, Bhaktaupr yesterday afternoon posted the results of this year's School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations on the web sites of the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education, the OCE and Nepal Telecom. Anybody could visit moe.gov.np, doe.gov.np, soce.gov.np, slcresult.soce.gov.np, and slc.ntc.net.np and find out the results of his/her examinations. Anybody could get the results sending SMS to 1400 and IVR 1600.
OCE has not published the results in prints this year. This has saved the papers, and this has in turn saved the environment from pollution caused by the manufacturing of paper and by disposing the newspapers. Probably, students must have the access to the digital results of the examinations even in the remote areas.
After completing 10 grades, every student needs to take the SLC examinations given by the OCE. They need to pass all subjects they take the examinations of. Then, only they could go for higher education. Failing in the SLC examinations means disqualified for higher education. They could go for vocational education that does not require the qualification of SLC. Many other opportunities must be waiting for the teenagers even if they failed in the SLC. Only they need to find out the best suitable opportunity for each of them. So, nobody needs to take his/her life if s/he has missed passing the SLC.
Out of 511,165 students taking the SLC examinations, only 41.57% passed this year. The percentage of passed students has been lower by 5.59 per cent in comparison to the results of the last year.
Results of the SLC examinations showed that 16,924 students scored 80 per cent and above passing with distinction, and 76,165 scored less than 80 per cent to 60 per cent passing in the first division, 69,830 scored less than 60 per cent to 45 per cent passing in the second division, and finally, 5,016 scored less than 45 per cent to 32 per cent passing in the third division.
The OCE in its digital publication of the SLC results has stated that 6,067 students dropped out the examinations; the results of 818 students were suspended. The examinations of 230 students were cancelled for various reasons and 60 were expelled from the examinations halls for improper behavior.
