Plan On Facilitating Trade With India

December 14, 2011: Nepal’s Consulate General at Kolkata Chandra Ghimire has outlined a six-point action plan to facilitate Nepal´s trade via Kolkata and Haldia ports at the interaction jointly held by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) on Monday Sananews.com reports.
“My first and foremost duty will be to take the initiative for resolving problems being faced by Nepali traders in delivering goods through Kolkata and Haldia ports and simplify the process of clearing goods in course of overseas trade,” Sananews.com quotes Ghimire.
“Besides, I will also take initiative to facilitate the implementation of sub-regional trade integration that envisages strengthening connectivity among Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan, promote Indian investment in Nepal and strengthen cultural ties between two countries,” said Ghimire.
Speaking at the same platform, NCC President Suresh Kumar Basnet has urged Ghimire to make diplomatic efforts on removing countervailing tax levied by India on Nepalese goods, recognizing quality certification issued by Nepali labs, simplifying goods clearance process at Kolkata and Haldia ports and early operation of Rohanpur-Sighabad railway line to boost trade with Bangladesh.
