Disqualified Combatants to Be Rehabilitated

The government is going to rehabilitate the Maoist combatants disqualified by the UNMIN starting on Friday, July 17, 2009 according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of July 17, 2009. The government is honorably taking out 4,008 Maoist combatants from the cantonments, and returns them to a regular life. The government will start this process from the Hathikhor cantonment in Nawalparasi district.

The government will keep them in a temporary shelter for 45 days and then give them an opportunity of having an useful training as chosen by them following the rehabilitation program and then returns them to a regular life. This process will be completed by November 2, 2009.
