Hearing On Petition On Habeas Corpus

Kathmandu: Hearing on the habeas corpus filed by the spouse of Chudamani Sharma the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken under control for investigation into the abuse of power and for irregularities in waving the taxes causing tax revenue loss of more than NPR 20 billion to the State, the full bench of justices Deepak Raj Joshi, Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Sharada Prasad Ghimire and Anil Kumar Sinha has ordered the Special Court to submit the dossier of the case CIAA has filed against the trio of Lumbadhwaj Mahat, Umesh Dhakal and Chudamani Sharma: officials of Tax Redemption Commission the Ministry of Finance has set up to redeem the taxes, to the Supreme Court.

 

Lumbadhwaj Mahat, and Umesh Dhakal have been on the run. CIAA has published a notice in “gorkhapatra” on June 22, 2017 stating anybody giving any information on these guys and helping to find them would be aptly awarded. Lumbadhwaj Mahat was the chairman of the Tax Redemption Commission, and Umesh Dhakal the member, and Chudamani Sharma the member secretary. They have waived the taxes even the companies have committed to pay, and VAT, too causing tax revenue loss to the State in billions of NPR.
