December 24, 2012: Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav today flew to Varanasi for a five-day official visit to India on the invitation of President Pranab Mukherjee. Chief Minister of Indian-State Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav welcomed President Dr Yadav at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, according to the news release of the Nepalese embassy in New Delhi. Senior officials of the Indian External Affairs Ministry including Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad were at the airport to receive the Nepalese president today.

President Dr Yadav is to receive the honorary Degree in Letters at the function to be held tomorrow for marking the 150th anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was the founder of the BHU: one of the oldest universities in India.

From Varanasi, President Dr Yadav will fly to New Delhi, and meet with his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ruling Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, and other dignitaries.

The President is taking with him the entourage of 23 members including his family members, Irrigation Minister Mahendra Yadav, press advisor Rajendra Dahal, legal advisor Lalit Basnet, secretary to his office Shital Babu Regmi, foreign secretary Durga Bhattarai and Brigadier General Pradip Bahadur Singh, according to the nepalnews.com.

In a news release, CPN-Maoist has strongly disagreed on the president’s visit to India and demanded the cancellation of the visit, as it is irresponsible for the president to leave the country at the time when his presence is necessary to resolve the political problems.

NC President Sushil Koirala also asked the president for canceling his visit to India, and stay in the country for breaking the political deadlock. Mr. Koirala had even demanded the president to resolve the political problems before the president left.
