Ambassadors Visit Cantonment and Nepal Army Barrack

Issue 43, October 25, 2009

By Kathmandu Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On October 23, 2009, six ambassadors of China, France, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States to Nepal visited the Chhauni in Kathmandu to see the arms stored by the Nepal Army and then one of the remote Maoists’ cantonments at Chulachuli in Eastern Nepal set up following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Maoists. Five of them are the representatives of the UN Security Council. They first went to see the arms stored by the Nepal Army at the Chhauni in Kathmandu and then in the afternoon they flew off to Eastern Nepal on a UN helicopter to see the Maoists’ cantonment. The UNMIN has been monitoring the cantonments and the arms stored by the Nepal Army.

The joint visit of six ambassadors to the cantonment and the Nepal Army barrack at Chhauni shows the deep concern of the Security Council for supporting the peace process and restoration of democracy and the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Nepal.

Chief of UNMIN Karen Landgren led the team of the ambassadors to the Nepal Army barrack at Chhauni in Kathmandu and then to the Maoists’ cantonment at Chulachuli in Eastern Nepal.
