Issue 10, March 10, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 5, 2013: Director of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Bhagwan Koirala yesterday said that he quit the office due to the multiple obstacles he faced while trying to manage the hospital’s past mess. Dr Koirala appointed on November 18 last year submitted his resignation on Friday, March 1, 2013. Tribhuvan University Executive Council has not accepted his resignation, yet. “It became extremely painful when some leaders and clean professors started justifying patient referrals out of the hospital,” said Koirala in his statement. He had requested for a special audit, which could not be done. “The hospital has started making little more money, but just enough to pay salaries and some recurring expenses,” said Koirala. In his statement, Dr Koirala said that they had taken legal actions against those involved in financial irregularities and those violating discipline, according HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.

In a statement issued in Kathmandu on the evening, March 4, 2013, Dr Bhagwan Koirala charged that the University Teachers Association and Unions constantly expressed resentment with tighter regulations. “It became extremely painful when some of the leaders and clean professors started justifying patient referrals out of the hospital,” he said. Expressing dissatisfaction over the failure of TU and the government to allocate funds for general expenditure, he blamed the central office of TU for dominating authority to make decisions on financial and administrative matters., according to THT ONLINE of yesterday.

Employee Association of the Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj yesterday held a signature campaign demanding to retain Dr Koirala as executive director to clean up the mess. The Association submitted the signatures to the office of the Dean, and planned to submit the signatures to the office of Prime Minister, concerned minister, Tribhuvan University, and so on, according to the ‘gorkhap[atra’ news of today.
