Tremors Jolt NC And CPN-UML

Issue 41, October 7, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 4, 2012: dissatisfied with the stand taken by NC and CPN-UML on anti-federalism and anti-federal states, ethnic-origin and Madheshi leaders and cadres belonging to NC and CPN-UML quitted the parties en mass with a view to forming a new party of their own.

Thirsty six ethnic-origin leaders and cadres of NC quit the NC despite the leaders asking them to stay on in the party and telling them that the NC party would consider their demand for institutionalizing federalism and federal states yesterday.

Today, altogether 550 ethnic-origin and Madhesi leaders and cadres of CPN-UML left the party, as they are not satisfied with the stand taken by the CPN-UML on federalism and federal states. Thirty-three central members and 517 cadres from 61 districts quit the CPN-UML. As the NC, the CPN-UML also has been against the interest of the ethnic and Madheshi people.

Vice-chairman of CPN-UML Ashok Rai said, "I don't have any intention to stay with a party that doesn't acknowledge my identity and that of the community I belong to. When we talk about equality and justice, those afflicted with narrow mindset accuse us of casteism and communalism. I feel pity for them. Previously, when Madhesi people asked for their rights, these very narrow-minded people accused them of trying to disintegrate the country," according to nepalnews.com.
