Smart Action Of The Special Court

June 9, 2011: the day after the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed the corruption case against more than thirty police officers concerning the purchase of substandard equipment and date-expired materials, the Special Court has held a first hearing on the case yesterday and served the subpoena to the defendants to be present at the court within 15 days.
The court has also issued an order to publish the notice served to contractor Mical Riedar five times in the national English Daily, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. CIAA has indicted the contractor for supplying the substandard equipment and date-expired materials to the Nepal Police Personnel serving as the UN Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur of Sudan.
CIAA in a case filed at the Special Court has demanded the recovery of Rs 288.1 million from the defendants and the fine of the same amount, and the maximum possible punishment of 10-year imprisonment and additional three-year imprisonment to the top police officers.
