Using Students As A Tool For Protests
By KTM Metro Reporter
November 22, 2012: leaders of the NC and CPN-UML have put the students on the streets to start off their storm of protests ostensibly for tearing down the current government actually for not institutionalizing the achievements made by the people’s movements of various times.
Using students is the cheapest way of holding protests, as they don’t need to pay the students to come to streets except for the students’ leaders. So, the students’ protests are the least costing to the political parties. Therefore, they use the students at the maximum possible.
Holding mass rallies has been a costly business for the political parties in Nepal. Holding a mass rally in Kathmandu costs a party almost Rs 2.5 million. Shutting down the entire Nepal costs a party twice the amount of holding a mass rally in Kathmandu.
So, the shrewd politicians of the NC and the CPN-UML use the students to start off their storm of protests to topple the government. Students have already started off shutting down the traffic erratically. The students simply follow the orders of the leaders of the political parties they are affiliated to. So, they are ready to commit any violence against the people’s fundamental rights.
These students have been talking in the political language and telling the government to build a consensus on the budget and to hold the elections and so on leaving their business of studying and doing home works behind.
