Monsoon Rains Causing Pains To People

July 6, 2011: persistent rains during the last few weeks have caused inundation marooning several villages and cutting them off from the district headquarters and market areas; and have caused several accidents, too, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
Some villages in the Mahottari district have been marooned and lost the transport link with the district headquarters due to floods in the local Rato River. People have been finding it impossible to move from one place to another due to the floods. Many of them have been moving back and forth from their home to marketplaces for buying the daily necessities risking their lives.
Across the Terai lowland areas, all people have been facing the flood risks. People of some villages have been finding it difficult to go from one place to another due to the floods. Many of them have been risking their lives while visiting the market areas to buy food and other essential items. Some of them have been shifted to safe areas in the makeshift sheds built for them to accommodate.
Monsoon has been persistent this year providing sufficient water to farmers for rice transplanting but causing floods to the people living in the lowland areas and riverside areas. For some of them, flooding is the annual event.
