Maoists’ Second round of Movement

On October 27, 2009, the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) has announced its second round of United National People’s Movement starting on Sunday, November 1, 2009 and ending on Friday, November 13, 2009 for ending the unconstitutional action of the President and setting up the people’s suzerainty.

The first round of movement has been mainly focused on boycotting the programs Prime Minister and other ministers have participated and greeting them with black flags. In some cases, the dissident cadres have pelted stones on the vehicles the ministers have traveled on.

Following the agenda of the United National People’s Movement, the Maoists will hold torchlight processions throughout the country on Nov. 1, hold sit-ins at offices of Village Development Committees and of the municipalities on Nov. 2, and at the offices of all District Development Committees on Nov. 4 and 5, declare autonomous republics on Nov. 9, blockade the Kathmandu Valley on Nov. 10, hold sit-ins at the Central Government’s Secretariat called Singhadurbar in Kathmandu on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 according to the news published in the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of October 28, 2009.
