By KTM Metro Reporter
July 5, 2011: annual monsoon has set in, water is available everywhere in the fields and rice plants are ready for transplantation but farmers have not been able to transplant them as they have no fertilizers. The government has the monopoly on buying and selling fertilizers but as every year, this year, too, the government agency responsible for providing farmers with fertilizers have not been able to do so even at the peak season of rice transplantation, ‘Gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
In other areas, where farmers need to pump water have no diesel to run their pumps for rice plantation. The government has monopoly on buying and selling diesel, too. So, farmers have been complaining that the government agencies have been incompetent to supply the fertilizers and diesels at the time when they need these two items the most.
In Kathmandu, shortage of diesel and petrol has continued causing inconvenience to the consumers and causing hamper to the businesses.
