Kidnapping and Killing in Nepal

Issue 28, July 12, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 7, 2009, the local crowd has killed two persons and severely wounded two others in suspicion of kidnapping children from a school in Madhapur Thimi Municipality. A group of eight people has attempted to kidnap children from the local school luring the children with chocolates into a trap. A crow of local people has beaten two suspects in kidnapping to death and two others injured severely.

The Ministry of Home lead by the CPN-UML Leader Bhim Rawal has issued instructions to the general people advising them not to help any unfamiliar children on the streets.

Nepalis have no more faith in the police and the government that they could provide them with security and the culprits get due punishment for their crimes, as the political leaders put pressure on the police to release criminals if they belong to their parties or happen to be their near and dear ones. The police in turn release criminals if they pay some handsome amount of money to the police. In addition, Nepalis have seen that the police have reached the stage of retrieving stolen goods from the thieves but not returning the goods to the owners but sharing among themselves. So, most of the high-ranking police have accumulated wealth more than their regular earnings provide them with.

The NC leaders have submitted a letter to the government demanding the government take strong actions against the culprit and follow the rule of law. On July 7, 2009, the NC students have continued to shutdown the streets at the Tri-chandra Campus demanding the government arrest the CPN-UML students who have fired the shots at the NC students on July 5, 2009 alleging the NC students have forced the campus administration to award the contract for a civil construction to the contractor favored by the NC students.
