CIAA to question former RCCC Officials

Issue 10, March 09, 2008

By KTM Reporter in Kathmandu

The Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has decided to take actions against the former officials of the disbanded Royal Commission on Corruption Control (RCCC) based on the report of a judicial commission chaired by former judge Madhav Prasad Ojha, forwarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs a few months ago according to the news report of “The Himalayan Times’ of March 05, 2008. The Ojha commission had suggested the government to prosecute the former RCCC officials for misusing the state treasury, as they had taken salary as chairman and members of the unconstitutional body formed to harass democratic leaders during the King's direct rule. The CIAA would question chairman of the RCCC Bhakta Bahadur Koirala and members such as Shambhu Prasad Khanal, Raghu Chandra Bahadur Singh, Hari Bahadur Chaudhari and Prem Bahadur Khati. King Gyanendra had formed the RCCC in order to take actions against democratic leaders on the charge of corruption after he seized power on February 01, 2005. The Supreme Court had ruled that the setting-up of the RCCC was unconstitutional and scraped it on February 13, 2006.
