Nominations Of Vice-president And General Secretary Of Nepali Congress

Issue 18, May 01, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 25, 2011: newly elected president of Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala has nominated Ram Chandra Poudel to Vice-president and Krishna Prasad Sitaula to the General Secretary following the statute of the NC but its central committee has refused to endorse their nominations about a few months ago.

NC leaders such as Sujata Koirala and Arjun Narsing KC had challenged the nominations made by their party’s president.

Sujata Koirala had even said that her party leadership had promised her the position of Vice-president during the election to the office holders of the NC; following such a promise, she had withdrawn her candidacy for one of the positions she wanted to run.

Mr. KC also had severely criticized his party leadership for the nominations of Vice-president and General Secretary made by the president of his party.

However, immediately after the visit of the Indian External Minister Krishna to Nepal from Wednesday through Friday, April 22, 2011, the central committee endorsed the same nominations unanimously. It might be mere coincidence or the Indian minister must have heavily influenced the NC leaders. If it is the influence of the Indian minister that has forced the central committee of the NC to endorse the nominations then it is certainly the shame on the NC leaders and cadres.
