Minister Mahaseth’s Support For Construction Contractors

KTM Metro Reporter

June 18, 2018

Kathmandu: the Radio Nepal morning seven o’clock news on June 18, 2018 has stated that Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth has told the construction contractors that they would not be arrested any more and the delay in construction is not only the fault of the contractors.

Thus, Minister Mahaseth has demonstrated his profound support for the construction contractors that have been the main obstacles to the progress of the country because they didn’t construct bridges, buildings, roads, hydropower projects, and irrigation systems on time, and they probably have been the agents for the past ministers and even the current minister, too for making money at the cost of the nation otherwise the minister would not need to defend the corrupt contractors that have disappeared taking the mobilization money or that have only half done the work or that have never completed the work, or that took five years to complete the work that was supposed to complete in one year.

All these things must probably have been happening with blessings of the concerned ministers in the past, which Minister Mahaseth has invariably proved defending the non-performing contractors.

Firmly supporting the non-performing construction contractors stating the delay in construction is not only the fault of the contractors, Minister Mahaseth has challenged the zero-tolerance of corruption Prime Minister KP Oli has repeatedly said, and Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s actions to bring the non-performing contractors to justice.

Thus, Minister Mahaseth stood against the fast-track economic prosperity the target the prime minister has set, and then giving his blessings to the non-performing contractors, Minister Mahaseth probably assisted the construction contractors to escape the punishment for the crimes they have committed not doing their jobs.

The country needs to appreciate the courage Minister Mahaseth has blatantly demonstrated for defending the non-performing construction contractors. The minister is no doubt very courageous to defend the non-performing contractors. Now, the valid question is why the contractors need to work when a minister is there to defend them when they are at the risk of the home minister bringing them to justice. They don’t need to, that is why they did not work in the past, and probably they won’t too currently, as long as a minister is there to save them from punishment.

The next important question is whether the prime minister needs to take immediate actions against the minister that has protected the non-performing contractors and that has gone against the spirit of zero-tolerance of corruption, and also against the fast economic prosperity, the answer is certainly yes; the prime minister needs to take immediate actions against Minister Mahaseth.

What then if the prime minister does not take immediate actions against Minister Mahaseth, the answer is clear, the prime minister has the direct or indirect link with the non-performing contractors through Minister Mahaseth, and the prime minister also has been benefiting based on the conspiracy theory, which says that criminals committing corruption, thefts, looting and even murder but go free with impunity means the law and order officials such as prime minister, ministers, state officials and so on are directly or indirectly involved in such crimes.
