Self-governance in Kashmir

Speaking at a seminar on “Kashmir Issue and South Asian Peace” held by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday, July 13, 2008, Dr Mubashir Hasan said that India and Pakistan have agreed to form a central government in Kashmir but the State would remain divided because of their refusal to withdraw forces from the Line of Control (LOC) drawn between the Pakistan administered Kashmir and the Indian administered Kashmir; however, Kashmiri leaders have not endorsed the Indian and Pakistani structure of governance so far; Kashmiri leaders have been for keeping their homeland united and deciding its future on the principle of right to self-determination; India and Pakistan have been ruling Kashmir for the last many years through proxy governments according to Dawn.com, July 14, 2008.
