By KTM Metro Reporter

October 6, 2011: today is the tenth day of the Dashain Festival. Tenth day is called Vijaya Dasami means the great victory. Today, eighteen limbed Goddess Durga Bhavani has completed the killing of all demon army including the demon king called Mahishasur that has managed to have the boon of all deities, animals and humans not be able to kill him but he has deliberately or carelessly ignored to include women on the list of the personalities that could not kill him. So, Lord Shiva gave the birth to Goddess Durga beaming strong light from his third eye on the forehead. All deities gave her their weapons to enable her to kill Demon king Mahishasur.

Shrewd Mahishasur and his army managed to take shelter in birds and animals. Mahishasur took the shelter in a buffalo. Last night, a buffalo is sacrificed to nine goddesses called Nava Durga in Bhaktapur completing the war against the demon king. Yesterday, Nepalis sacrificed as many animals and birds as possible killing the demons taking shelter in them.

Today is the tenth day of the Dashain festival. On this day, Goddess Durga won the victory over the demon. So, Nepalis celebrated the victory of the goddess over the demon king wearing the symbol of victory: red tika on their foreheads. Some of them will continue to wear such red tika until the coming full moon day.

Seniors apply such victory symbols on the juniors and bless them. Today, Nepalese President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has applied the victory symbols on Nepalis and others wishing to wear the victory symbol on their foreheads from 12:30 to 5:00 PM at his official residence in Kathmandu.
