Impartiality of Supreme Court Ruling

Issue 31, August 2, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The Madheshi leaders have threatened to resign from the ministerial positions and take the issue of the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal concerning the oath taken by the Vice-president in the Hindi if the government does not act immediately to manage the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal. They also have said that the Supreme Court has not ruled the case concerning the age of Chief of Army Staff Rukmangad Katuwal even after three years however, the Supreme Court has ruled the case of the oath taking in the Hindi by the Vice-president in a year.

Legal advisors to the Prime Minister have counseled him to take a middle course to resolve the issue of the oath in Hindi either amending the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 or appealing the Supreme Court of Nepal to review the ruling on the oath in Hindi; at the same time, the Vice-president needs not to do any official work until the issue of the oath in Hindi is resolved.

According to the local media, Vice-president Permananda Jha has been furious with the Supreme Court at the ruling on the oath in Hindi and even has labeled the justices as incompetent.
