Issue 24, June 10, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 6, 2012: Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda goes to the resident of Vice-president Permananda Jha and sounds what he really thinks about the current political situation brought by the dissolution of the CA and announcement of fresh elections to a new CA.

Chairman Prachanda makes a statement that the president could reinstate the CA if all political parties agree on it. Senior NC Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba agrees on reinstating the CA but Junior NC Leader Man Mohan Bhattarai says that none could reinstate the unconstitutionally dissolved CA.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai meets with Senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Senior CPN-UML Leader Madhav Nepal and sounds what they have in their minds concerning the current political situation.

Speaking at a face-to-face with the media in Kathmandu yesterday, Acting chairman of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Republican and Minister for Information and Communications Raj Kishor Yadav said that the government would not bow down to the threats of the opposition parties to launch street protests in an attempt to oust the current government, and warned of countering the opposition parties’ attempt to push the country to instability and anarchy, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, UN Resident and UNDP Representative in Nepal Robert Piper paid a visit to Vice-president of NC Ram Chandra Poudel to ascertain the latest position of the NC on the political situation in Nepal, as the NC had the habit of continuously changing its stand on the political policy.

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, a delegation of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) went to see President of NC Sushil Koirala at his residence in Maharajgunj complaining him about the adverse impact caused by the latest political development on the business, and asked the president for ending the political instability. The businesspeople told President Koirala that they had already suffered from the shutdowns called by various political entities; if the NC and its partner CPN-UML were to shut down the nation protesting against the dissolution of the CA, the businesspeople would be better off leaving the country.

The latest political development is the CPN-UML holding a dinner party for foreign diplomats residing in Kathmandu at the Gokarna Resort on Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 in an attempt to convince them of the CPN-UML’s position on the dissolution of the CA and the political scenario developed by it, according to the news posted on the nepalnews.com. Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal read out a five-page statement to about 20 ambassadors from the different countries participated in the dinner accusing the UCPN-Maoist and UDMF of causing the unceremonious demise of the CA the news on nepalnews.com quotes ‘Naya Patrika daily’. Mr. Khanal did not believe in the possibility of holding elections.

Some political analysts said that from whom the CPN-UML leaders had received the money to hold such a dinner party if they had not stolen from the national coffer when Madhav Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal: both the leaders of the PCN-UML were the prime ministers. Mr. Khanal had been notoriously infamous for not doing anything during his six-month stay in office. Mr. Nepal had done everything possible to spend the state money on anything he wanted to do during the 20-month stay in office. Now, probably, they were spending the taxpayers’ money stolen from the state coffer on holding a dinner to the diplomats only to win their favor.
