Announcement Of Date For Holding Elections Within Two Days

April 11, 2013: speaking at the press conference held by the Revolutionary Journalists’ Association of Baglung in Baglung yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said that at the meeting with Chairman of Interim Election Council of Minister (IECM) Khil Raj Regmi yesterday morning, Chairman Regmi has committed to announce the date for holding elections within two days, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

He also said that he urged the chairman of IECM to hold elections in November if elections were impossible in June due to the technical matters, as the four major political parties had agreed on it. He said that his party wanted the elections as soon as possible, and urged the opposing parties to make up mind for participating in elections instead of trying to impede elections.

 

If elections were to hold in November then delineation of constituencies could be done based on the population census, and the updating of the voter’s lists, too. He also said that the president had recognized the four major parties had the two-thirds majority in the dissolved CA accordingly the four major parties had made the agreement, and urged the CPN-Maoist and other parties to come to the agreement on holding elections.

 

Speaking at the debate on “Upcoming Elections: Opportunities And Challenges” in Kathmandu yesterday, Election commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has said that holding elections in June is still possible if the political parties were to create an environment conducive to elections; a consensus of political parties on holding elections is necessary; elections could not be held in the past due to not having a consensus of the political parties, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ today.
