Jhalanath Khanal Takes Oath Of Office

Issue 07, February 13, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 7, 2011: Prime Minister-elect Jhalanath Khanal has taken the oath of office from the president on Sunday, February 06, 2011 finally ending the most tainted and corrupt regime of Madhav Nepal and his corrupt ministers. We hope that the new prime minister and his ministers will not rob the state and the people as well, as did his predecessor Madhav Nepal and his ministers. Even after Khanal has been elected Madhav Nepal has misused the state money holding a lavish farewell party at the official residence of prime minister at Baluwatar in Kathmandu. Madhav Nepal did not follow any laws, rules and regulations but did everything by the decisions of the cabinet. Mr. Khanal should not follow anyone of the traits of Madhav Nepal if he really wants to do something for the country and redeem his reputation as the political leader.

The most important thing to do for Mr. Khanal is keeping the coalition of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML intact. Senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the collaboration and understanding reached between UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML has led to the formation of a government and should continue it to accelerate the completion of the peace process and the constitution writing according to Nepalnews.com. He has also said that the portfolio allocation in dispute should not hinder the collaboration between the two parties. However. Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has said that they have no arguments over the allocation of portfolios.

Other leaders of NC have said that the coalition between the two communist parties is undemocratic and goes against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement the government has reached with the UCPN-Maoist, and even have said that it is catastrophic to democracy. Most probably, these guys calling themselves democratic must have forgotten what the democracy means. They think if they win elections then it is democracy if the opponents win elections then it is not democracy. It is the beauty of democracy that leaders can speak anything they like but sometimes what they don’t follow the rule of law is really a disaster to the fledgling democracy.

The election of Khanal to a new prime minister is a slap on the faces of those leaders saying foreign interferences have been rampant in the Nepalese politics, as the foreign power has been certainly not for the coalition of the two communist parties and not for Khanal to be a new prime minister. India certainly prefers Ram Chandra Poudel to be a prime minister keeping the Maoists at bay but it has not been materialized despite the visit of the Indian foreign secretary to Nepal. The election of Khanal to a new prime minister is also a slap on Ram Chandra Poudel that has been for not a change in anything at all.

The new government will surely formulate new polices and programs and present a full-fledged budget for the FY 2010 to the parliament annulling the budget and programs of the officiating government of the former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal.
