Refuting Allegations Against Prime Minister

March 9, 2013: in a statement issued by his personal secretary Bishwodip Pandey yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has refuted the twelve charges made against him, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.
1. The prime minister explained that his statement: ‘the country’s economy could submerge’ made in the context of the fast development of the neighboring countries was misinterpreted, as the country would be ‘merged’ with the neighboring countries.
2. The prime minister also said that it was a speculation to say the government had provided Yami Foundation with Rs 30 million, as it does not exit
3. It was not true that he refused to accept Sushil Koirala as a next prime minister even though his party Chairman Prachanda accepted a Koirala-led government, as there was no such an agreement reached with the NC.
4. Concerning the allegation of the prime minister was responsible for the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly; the prime minister said that in fact he had tried to save it from dissolution.
5. The prime minister also refuted the allegation of the government refusing to provide the conflict victims of Bandarmudhe with Rs 6 million but in fact the government through the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has provided the fund along with other relief package.
6. Concerning the upgrading and strengthening the international airport, the fact is misinterpreted stating the government was turning over the international Airport to India.
7. Concerning the allegation of constructing a track through the Baais Dhara Park at Balaju in Kathmandu under the leadership of his spouse Hisila Yami, the prime minister explained that the locals constructed the track well before his government was formed.
8. Concerning the allegation of nepotism, the prime minister said that the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) had appointed Prof Timila Yami (Hisila Yami’s sister) to the acting chief of the drinking water utility following her seniority without any external influence.
9. The prime minister refuted that the government has planned to upgrade the capacity of Trishuli-3 A hydropower project for pocketing a commission.
10. The prime minister also refuted the allegation of purchasing a helicopter for the Nepal Army bypassing the ministry for pleasing the army stating the committee for purchasing a helicopter has the representations of all concerned ministries.
11. Prime Minister Bhattarai said that he did not fire the commissioner of the Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority Keshav Sthapit but he failed to act properly.
12. The Prime Minister asked the people that had accused him of making a statement ‘the country’s key lies elsewhere’ come with evidences to prove that statement.
