GP Koirala Center For Respiratory Diseases To Be Int'l Standard

January 3, 2014: the Girija Prasad Koirala National Center for Respiratory Diseases being built at Khairenitar of the Tanahun district will be upgraded to an international standard, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
The center focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases and carry out nationwide awareness programs. The center is being built in the memory of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala: a patient of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Later on, the Center will be developed into a teaching hospital where the patients of heart, orthopedics and lungs diseases could get checkup services, said Ram Kumar Bhandari, board member of the center. The Center will be developed into a 300-bed health facility on some 700 ropanis of land.
"We are in the first phase of constructing the hospital and will open the OPD service soon," said Dr. Shila Barma. The Center has received the financial assistance from different helping hands and the Government of Nepal has released 30 million rupees for the Center. The master plan of the Center is under draft, said Dr. Barma.
According to the health ministry, currently, around 60,000 Nepalis are suffering from respiratory disease in Nepal.
