Kathmandu Metropolitan City Running Night Buses

Issue 34, August 19, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 16, 2012: according to the local Nepalese media, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is launching night bus services in major routes in Kathmandu from tomorrow. KMC would be well off leaving such services to the private companies so that they could give better services at a nominal cost. KMC needs to engage in giving proper names to streets and put up the streets names so that people could reach their destinations reading the street names.

Currently, even Nepalis have difficulty in finding the streets, as there were no street names and streets signs. KMC is a metropolitan city but it has no street names and signs not to mention the house number. Once, KMC had started off distributing the house number as long as a donor agency spoon-fed it but long ago KMC had stopped doing so as it did not bring any revenue to the officials elected as well as hired. So, they did not care about whether the so-called KMC has its houses had number or not.

KMC is doing the business of bus service, as it might bring a lot of money to the officials but not to the KMC. The officials had the habit of pocketing everything possible. So, people living in Kathmandu had no streets names and sign and house number, too, as doing such business did not bring any revenue to the officials of KMC.
