Stop Malpractices and Irregularities at the Government Departments says CIAA

Issue 01, January 06, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Friday, December 28, 2007, Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) requested the government departmental heads and other government officials to expedite the formation of a monitoring mechanism to monitor corruption and irregularities prevalent in all departments and organizations according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of December 29, 2007. CIAA stated that the major barriers to controlling corruption and effective implementation of the government policies are the delayed correspondence, and the lack of the effective monitoring of irregularities and mal-appropriation. “There is the wrong understanding of the role of CIAA and every correspondence of CIAA is taken with awe and suspicion," Bhagwati Kumar Kafle, Secretary to the CIAA said at the interaction. Secretary Kafle said the CIAA has authority to look into only about 40 per cent cases of corruption. “We seek to extending our area of operation," he added.
