By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On august 1, 2009, three top leaders such as Prachanda, Girija Prasad Koirala and Jhalanath Khanal of the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) respectively sat together at the residence of Koirala for a meeting to discuss the setting up of a high-level political mechanism that will bring all three political parties to a common understanding, and agreed to form a six-member high-level political mechanism. It will have two-member each from the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML.
Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has been telling the public that the 12-point Understanding reached between the Maoists and the seven-party alliance has met the objectives and a new understanding among the political parties is necessary. However, President of NC Girija Prasad Koirala has been saying that all political parties need to enforce all the previous agreements rather than creating a new understanding.
