Prachanda Complains about media bias

Issue 13, March 30, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On March 23, 2008, addressing a press conference in Kathmandu, Maoists’ chairman Prachanda has said that the Nepalese press has not properly reported the death of more than 60 Maoists’ cadres since his party has entered into a peace process but the press blows up any minor mistakes of his party workers out of proportion.

Prachanda criticized the UNMIN report made public yesterday for blaming the Maoists for engaging in violence. “I met UNMIN chief Ian Martin this morning and told him his report is biased. The report mentions nothing about brutal killings of our cadres,” he said, adding that two persons arrested on the charge of killing National People's Front candidate Kamal Adhikari in Banke were not his party cadres according to “The Himalayan Times.”

Police in Banke have arrested two commanders of Jwala Singh faction of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-J) in connection with the murder of Kamal Prasad Adhikarki. In a press conference held in Nepalgunj on Sunday, March 23, the police presented the two JTMM-J commanders arrested on Friday to the media people. Those arrested are Ram Baran Burma alias Halchal and Manoj Singh Choudhary. Burma and Choudhary were local in-charges of the JTMM-J in Banke and Bardiya respectively according to the Nepalnews.com May 22 08.
