Need For Firing CEO For Increasing Load-shedding In Nepal

Issue 38, September 18, 2011

BY KTM Metro Reporter

September 15, 2011: the increase in power outage even in the monsoon season is the failure in the management of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Currently, the power outage has been 18 hours a week that is unbelievable during the monsoon period. Such power outage has happened only during the dry season when the water is not sufficiently available in rivers to drive turbines to produce electricity.

Former Minister for Energy Gokarna Bista has created ripples of hope and excitement when he has started off snapping the power lines connecting the state offices that have not cleared off the electricity bills. He also has appointed a CEO paying him Rs 250,000 per month to improvement the management of NEA.

Obviously, the CEO enjoying Rs 250,000 salary per month has not mitigated the power outage rather increased it even during the monsoon period. Is it not time for the current Minister for Energy to fire such a CEO? Has he any moral ground to stay on in the job when he could not perform well?
