Saying Bye To Maoist Combatants

February 6, 2012: Maoist combatants opting for voluntary retirement have started off leaving their cantonments at various places on Saturday, February 4, 2012; each one leaving the cantonment has received the check for the half of the total amount s/he is entitled to receive, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of February 5, 2012 writes.
The government of Nepal has decided to pay each combatant the amount s/he receives in two installments. Maoist combatants receive Rs. 500,000, company commanders Rs. 600,000, battalion commanders Rs. 700,000, and above the battalion commanders Rs 800,000. They also receive travel allowance of Rs 2,000 per person traveling in Tarai and Rs 4,000 in the hills and Rs 8,000 in the mountains.
According to the ‘The Rising Nepal’ news, most of the combatants leaving the cantonments were not happy with what they received as the compensation; they said that they opted out of joining the Nepal Army following the instruction of the party leadership for the fear of being unfit for joining the Nepal Army; they also wanted the certificate of recognizing their contribution to setting up Nepal as a republic.
