February 15, 2012: demanding the doubling of their wages, members of the labor union called All Nepal Trade Union Federation-Revolutionary affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist have shut down the multi-national company called Unilever Nepal located in Hetauda. The company produces toothpastes and soaps.

Despite the FNCCI mediating between the labor Union and the company management, the labor union and the company management have not been able to resolve the problem of wage increases. According to the news posted on various website, the company management has increased the wages of labor several times during the last few years.

The company management is seeking Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s intervention in the dispute for resolving the labor problem at the company. According to the news, the prime minister has assured the company of resolving the labor problem soon.
