Temporary Voters’ Identity Cards

Issue 42, October 20, 2013

By KMT Metro Reporter

October 19, 2013: the ‘gorkhapatra’ today writes that the Election Commission is preparing to distribute temporary voters’ ID cards starting from the remote areas.

Nepal: one of the poor countries in the world has been pampered by the donor agencies. Donor agencies have been providing Nepal with billions of rupees for making voters’ ID cards with pictures.

Do you really need to make voters’ ID cards at the expense of so much of donors’ resources and the EC’s energy based on the citizenship certificates? Is it not the duplication of citizenship certificates?

Citizenship certificates are sufficient for the identification of voters. The district administration offices have been providing Nepalis with citizenship certificates with ease and at a least cost to the citizens.

In whose interest the EC has been making the voters’ ID cards, and the government is proposing to the national identity cards?

Citizenship certificates should be good enough for all the purposes except for the driving licenses and other specific licenses.
