Japanese Assistance To Highway Project In Nepal

July 10, 2012: Japanese ambassador to Nepal Kunio Takahashi and Secretary to Ministry of Finance Krishna Hari Banskota signed off the agreement on the Japanese government providing Nepal with the Rs 5.6 billion grant assistance for the construction of the 20km-long Khurkot-Nepalthok road section and retaining walls for stopping landslides along the Kathmandu-Sidhuli Section II in Kathmandu on Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Satoshi Fuji, Senior Representative of JICA, and Lal Shanker Ghimire, Joint Secretary to the Foreign Aid Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance, also signed and exchanged two separate grant agreements on the implementation of the two Projects, according to the press statement issued by Japanese Embassy, writes nepalnews.com.
“This grant will be utilized to procure the products and services necessary for the construction of the remaining segment, about 20km, of the Sindhuli Road Section III. Once this Section III (Khurkot – Nepalthok section) is completed, the Sindhuli Road will be ready to play the important role of main corridor between the capital city Kathmandu and the Eastern Terai area via Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap, Sindhuli and Mahottari Districts, reducing traveling distances significantly. In addition, the Kathmandu – Bhaktapur Road, which was completed last year under Japan’s ODA, contributes to this corridor’s connectivity.” reads the press statement, writes nepalnews.com.
